Imagine this. You waken on a Saturday. Birds are singing and children are playing near the river. Out your window, people are strolling and biking along the Clark Fork River Trail. You head out for your climb to the M, a quick ride across the Madison Street under-bridge, then wander downtown for a latte and errands.
All without starting your car.

Sometimes the old ways are best. Sometimes new technologies offer remarkable benefits.
In designing Hartman Place, we’ve kept this in mind, combining the best of the old and new.

On the one hand, our basic building material, Roman concrete, “green roof” construction, and energy-saving passive design features, are time-tested. On the other, the solar-assisted hot water, photovoltaic electricity, and super-efficient quadruple-glazed windows and doors, are state-of-the-art.
Together they maximize efficiency and minimize your carbon footprint.

All while maintaining the level of comfort you’ve come to expect.

When it comes to sustainability, small is beautiful. These homes range from 1,050 to 2,750 sq. ft., and we’ve designed them to maximize usable living space, while minimizing “dead” areas that must be heated, cooled, and cleaned.

The result?
 
Wonderfully cozy flats that don’t consume vast amounts of energy to maintain. Heating and cooling are handled by ground- source heat pumps that efficiently pull any energy you need from Missoula’s fast-moving aquifer. (You won’t need a lot, though, thanks to the radiant qualities of the building’s high mass walls.)

You can keep your lights switched off, too. Smart placement of each unit’s
elegant windows supplies an abundance of natural light throughout much of the day.

When we selected Natural Hydraulic Lime masonry, or Roman concrete, as our main building material, it wasn’t just for the fancy name. There’s a reason many of Rome’s famous landmarks are still standing: Unlike Portland cement, which tends to shrink and crack, Roman concrete maintains its integrity over the millennia.

Not only that, but this all-natural product offers superior air and sound qualities: It breathes more freely, eliminating wall moisture and reducing the risk of mold and dry rot. Yet our 24” thick wall construction is double-insulated for superior heat/cool retention.
 
It’s also naturally bacteria resistant, uses 80% less energy to produce, and actually re-absorbs CO2 during the curing process. It’s easy to under- stand the superiority of the ancient material used in your new home.
